Maui Ukulele Guild Exhibition

Community and school groups perform

Maui Ukulele Guild Exhibition

Hinano is the President of the Maui Ukulele Guild

The Maui ‘Ukulele Guild (association of ‘ukulele builders) has hosted an Annual Exhibition on the second Saturday of November at Queen Kaahumanu Center since 2008. The public can see how instruments are made and talk to builders, enter to win a new ‘ukulele, and enjoy entertainment by ‘ukulele groups from schools and the community.

Since 2011 at the 4th Annual Exhibition, Ukulele Mele On Maui had a display booth and we talked to people all day from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. when not performing on stage with the Maui Ukulele Pops Band from 1:20 – 1:50 p.m. and the Maui Ukulele Jazz Trio from 2:40 – 3:10 p.m. The first year the Jazz Trio immediately followed the Pops Band on stage. In subsequent years, a hula halau performed in between the two groups which allowed more time to rest and change from Hawaiian (Band) to jazzy (Trio) attire. The 10th Annual Exhibition in 2017 was the last year for the Maui Ukulele Jazz Trio performances and for the Ukulele Mele On Maui display booth.

Since 2018, the Maui Ukulele Pops Band continues to perform the regularly scheduled 30-minute set from 1:20-1:50 p.m. (no display booth). In 2019, The Hawaiian Serenaders performed a 30-minute set at noon to fill in for the regularly schedule school group that couldn’t make it that year, in addition to the Band’s set.

NEXT SHOW Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 13th Annual Maui Ukulele Guild Exhibition
